There was an interesting article recently in the New York Times recently regarding using Algae on Municipal sewage to create diesel fuel, fertilizer and carbon credits. A Nevada company claims that they can do this cost effectively.
The general consensus among climate change scientists and engineers is that there is no single solution that will help us to reduce carbon emissions. This advancement may be one of the solutions. It will be interesting to see how this technology stacks up against waste water treatment plants that us anaerobic digesters, and utilize the off-gas methane to produce electricity. (Waste heat from the engine is used to heat the digester to further aid the anaerobic process.
