Deep Energy Retrofit study at an unused elementary school being converted to a Community Centre. Our study helped to secure more than $5.3 million in Federal funding to support the project. We continued to support this project after the initial study by providing detailed mechanical and electrical design in addition to construction administration duties.
EE was retained by Pinpoint Engineering on behalf of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury to conduct a deep energy retrofit study at an unused elementary school being converted to a Community Centre with unique services including a food bank. The purpose of the study was in support of capital implementation funding through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program of the Green Municipal Fund.
EE also completed the funding application on behalf of the City as EE has proven success in securing millions of dollars in funding from a variety of providers including CMHC, Smart Green, Enridge and Save on Energy. EE provided Bradford with two (2) plans. A plan to reduce GHG emission by 50%, and a plan to reduce GHG emissions by 80%. In consultation with EE, the town chose the 50% reduction plan and EE prepared a full building energy model in RETScreen in support of their application for funding (RETScreen was the model required by the GMF program). Measures outlined in the plan included: triple-pane, low-e, argon filled windows, EIFS, condensing boilers, low-temperature fan coils, rooftop heat pump HVAC units, and LED lighting. The 80% reduction plan included a VRF system and solar PV.
The Town has already begun implementation and EE was also hired to complete the mechanical and electrical design and construction administration duties. Construction on this project is currently under way.
